After moving from California, I had lots of track, lots of roadbed, and lots of buildings from the old layout. I didn't have anyplace to store them, so putting them out in the yard seemed the best thing to do. The yard needed landscaping so I wasn't ready to do anything permanent. But I had to do something. So, I spent a few days working up a plan on RR-Track 4.0. (You can see the plan on the next page.) Then, one weekend, I put everything out, wired it up, and got two trains running. I haven't done anything outside since. (I've been working on the overhead layout in the house.)

This is an extreme wide-angle view from the second-floor deck. This part of the yard is flat and in heavy shade, so it was perfect for a quick setup that wouldn't be disturbed by the need to cut the lawn. I need to do some serious landscaping before I make anything permanent.
